Surfaces must be clean and dry, removing all traces of dust and dirt before application (maximum moisture content 20%). Only apply on frost free surfaces. For guaranteed performance, Osmo recommend that all traces of previous finishes are removed to expose clean, bare wood.
Existing oiled surfaces can be lightly rubbed back with meths then fully cleaned
Pre-existing paints, varnishes, waxes and sealers must be completely removed by sanding or with a suitable varnish or paint stripper / remover
Use Osmo Interior Wood Filler, Osmo Interior Gap Sealer or Osmo Repair Kit to repair small dents and holes
To protect against blue stain in moist surroundings, pre-treat with biocide-free wax impregnation Osmo Wood Protector
Application:
We always recommend applying a test area to ascertain drying times and effect. Osmo Polyx-Oil is ready-to-use from the tin, do not thin. Stir thoroughly prior to application. Osmo oils dry via oxidation so it is important to ensure good ventilation during application and drying.
Application to Wood Floors:
The ideal application tool is a firm, fine, natural bristled brush. For the best results, apply thinly and remove any excess oil from the surface of the wood with a clean, lint-free cloth.
1. Apply first coat thinly and evenly along the wood grain with an Osmo Floor Brush - use in conjunction with the Osmo Telescopic Handle for ease of application
2. Remove any surplus oil and leave to dry (8-10 hours)
3. Lightly de-nib the surface
4. Remove all traces of de-nibbing / sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner
5. Apply a second thin coat and allow to fully dry
Application to Cork floors:
Cork tiles are best treated before fitting to avoid overlapping treatment of edges which would lead to prolonged drying times. A cork floor treated with Osmo Polyx-Oil will get a robust, elastic and wear-resistant surface which will harden further over 2-3 weeks. Due to the extreme absorption power of this highly elastic, natural, material we recommend the following procedure:
1. Apply first coat very thinly with an Osmo Professional Scraper or Osmo Double Blade Scraper, and for smaller areas use an Osmo Soft Tip Brush
2. Polyx-Oil should immediately absorb into the surface
3. Leave to dry for at least 24 hours
4. Apply second coat, again very thinly
5. Remove excess with cloth immediately
6. Leave to dry for at least 24 hours
