A primer is the first coat you need to put on metal, wood or walls if they haven’t been painted before. By adding a primer, a seal is created on the original material so that when you paint the surface with a topcoat, it gives a more hardwearing finish. Primer also helps hide joints or seams and any other natural blemishes.
