How to improve your garden with Cuprinol Garden Shades

If you’re looking to go the extra mile with your garden this year and add something special, perhaps a talking point to impress your guests, then you have come to the right place!

There can seem a lot to do in the garden such as weeding and planting and often, no matter the effort put in, there is little to show for all your hard work!

This year, why not try something a little different that will liven up your garden ready for those summer BBQs!

Cuprinol Garden Shades is a great paint that is ideal to give your garden that extra little something. It can be used on many surfaces to add in some colours including wood, brick, stone and terracotta. The paints are made with special pigments to ensure they give a rich colour that still lets the natural grain of the wood come through. Moreover, they provide wonderful protection to sheds and fences.

We think Cuprinol Garden Shades is exactly what you need to create your perfect outdoor space!

Below, we have included some projects provided by Cuprinol. These are easy to make and a sure way to add some extra fun into your gardening schedule.

1. How to create your own fairy garden

This is a very simple project and won’t take long to do once you have all your items together.

Fairy Garden

You will need:

  • A terracotta pot –  use a wide mouth pot that is not too deep.
  • Moss, pebbles, twigs and any small greenery – you can get these from around your garden or pick up on your next walk!
  • Compost
  • Little fairy ornaments, I.e., fairies, benches, little bugs etc.
  • Your choice colour of Cuprinol Garden Shades.  Pebble Trail is used in the video.

How to create this:

Step 1. First, paint your terracotta pot in your chosen Cuprinol Garden Shades colour.

Step 2. Place some pebbles and stones in the bottom of the pot for drainage and then fill almost to the top with compost.

Step 3. Carefully place your foraged moss, pebbles, twigs and any other greenery in your pot to create your fairy garden.

Step 4. Finish your fairy garden by adding your ornaments to bring your fairy garden to life!

Put your fairy garden wherever you think it looks best and you’re all done!

2. How to create your own living garden table

This is a creative way to turn something simple and plain, such as your outside wooden table into something that’s interesting and lively!

Living Table

You will need:

  • Wooden table
  • Masking tape
  • Pre-made or bought wooden flower/window box
  • Brackets
  • Plants – to go in flower box
  • Your choice colour of Cuprinol Garden Shades. In the video, Cuprinol use Terracotta.

How to create this:

Step 1: Make a strip down the centre of your table with masking tape.

Step 2: Using your chosen Garden shades colour, paint the strip of table you masked off.

Step 3: Sand down your flower/ window box and paint in the same colour as your table.

Step 4: Once dry, attach brackets to your flower/ window box.

Step 5: Screw your box to the underside of the table and fill with your choice of plants.

Decorating furniture, you’ve already got is a great way to freshen up your garden if you don’t have a lot of space to be adding extra bits!

3. How to create your own outdoor floor lamps

Trying to create a cosy atmosphere in your garden? These floor lamps are definitely a project you should be doing this summer! Make your own customised lighting for your perfect garden space!

Garden Floor Lamps

You will need:

  • 2 x large terracotta pots
  • 2 x tall, straight logs
  • Quick dry cement
  • Plastic bucket
  • Water
  • Bin bag
  • Masking tape
  • Stones
  • Screw in hooks
  • String lights / fairy lights
  • Your choice colour of Cuprinol Garden Shades. You can use 2 colours for this DIY project. Cool Marble and White Daisy is used in this video.

How to create this:

Step 1: Paint your 2 terracotta pots in your chosen Cuprinol colour and allow to dry.

Step 2: Find and prepare your 2 straight logs by brushing of any dirt.

Step 3: Mix up the quick dry cement in the plastic bucket.

Step 4: Line your terracotta pots with bin bags (this allows you to reuse the pot later). Stand your logs in the pots upright and fill the pot with the quick dry cement and allow it to set. You may need to support the logs whilst the cement dries.

Step 5: Using masking tape, mask off your log however high you want the paint to go and paint with your other colour.

Step 6: Once cement is set, cover with stones around the base of the log.

Step 7: Screw in your hooks at the top so you can hang your lights up.

Once this is all done, place the pots where you want them so that you can drape your lights between them and create unique and beautiful lighting.

We hope you will try these great garden DIY projects this summer to help you create a beautiful space that you can relax in!

Once you have given it a go, why not send us pictures of your finished result with the Cuprinol colours you have used and let us know what you think!
