With its thick creamy texture, Earthborn Claypaints covers walls incredibly well, often requiring just one coat. In addition to this, it’s highly breathable, which makes it ideal for lime and heritage projects, without leaving any nasty smells or VOC emissions.

About Earthborn

Founded in 2002, Earthborn’s founders were looking for a true eco alternative to conventional paints, long before most people had even heard of ‘eco’. What makes Earthborn different is the  high quality and high performance of their paints which is the result of carefully selecting the right environmentally friendly ingredients and using technologically advanced manufacturing processes and formulations. Earthborn even included a full list of ingredients on their tins to ensure you make a more informed choice.

What is claypaint?

Earthborn Claypaint is an exciting clay-based breathable paint that has a distinctive, ultra matt finish that softens and enhances the light in your room, while its contemporary colours tempt the senses.

The super breathable Claypaint gives luxurious, ultra-matt finish to interior walls and ceilings as it is made using Earthborn’s unique eco-friendly clay recipe.

Where should I use Earthborn Claypaint?

Earthborn Claypaint is incredibly versatile, finding a home on interior walls, ceilings and furniture too!

Because of its excellent breathability, claypaint is ideal for external-facing walls in older homes, where there’s the propensity for penetrating damp. Earthborn’s Claypaint is available in 72 rich colours, coupled with the thick luxury of the claypaint provides something you can’t achieve any other way.

In addition to this, as Earthborn’s Claypaint doesn’t leave any nasty smells or VOC emissions it is perfect for throughout the entire home, especially as paint for nurseries, home offices and children’s bedrooms.

As claypaints absorb moisture they’re perfect for use in kitchens and bathrooms too!

How do I use Earthborn Claypaint?

Before you can begin using the Claypaint, you need to decide where you’d like to paint - remember, Earthborn Claypaint is perfect for interior walls, ceilings and furniture, due to its ultra matt finish that is fully breathable for lime, stone, brick and plaster.

Once you have established where you’d like to paint, it’s on to choosing the right colour.

Colours can vary when viewing on computer screens, and even colour cards. As Earthborn stockists,  we always recommend using a sample pot to determine the colour which can be ordered from our website.

Top Tip: Paint a sample onto a piece of card and move it around the room to see how the light and shade will affect the colour. If you're painting straight onto the wall, make sure you don’t apply it too thickly as it will affect the final finish.

Once you have decided where you’re going to paint and what colour you’re going to go for, you’ll need to calculate exactly how much Earthborn Claypaint in your chosen colour you’re going to need for the job to avoid having too much, or too little.

To help with your calculations, Earthborn Claypaint gives coverage of approximately 10m2 a litre!

Prior to painting, prepare your walls to ensure you have a smooth even surface to begin with.

You should fill any dents and cracks, in addition to removing any flaking paint, in addition to ensuring that the walls are clean and dry at least 24 hours before starting to paint.

Top tip: Mask off any door frames, skirting boards using Frog Tape and remove any switches and sockets from the wall.

And once the prep work is done, you can begin painting.

Earthborn Claypaint can be applied by brush, roller or spray in the same way as conventional emulsion. Most people find a short pile roller provides the best finish. Please note the method of application will affect the finished texture; a roller will give most texture (the longer the roller pile the greater the texture) and a spray the least.

Top tip: For highly absorbent surfaces such as bare plaster, apply a diluted coat of paint (80% paint diluted with 20% water), followed by 1-2 full coats as per the product instructions.
